Alexei Monroe will be participating in the first ever international academic conference on Kraftwerk: “Industrielle Volksmusik for the Twenty-First Century – Kraftwerk and the Birth of Electronic Music in Germany”
The conference will take place at Aston University in Birmingham on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22, January 2015.
Alexei Monroe will speak on Thursday 22 at 14:15 and the title of his lecture is “Trans-Slovene Expressions: Kraftwerk on the Sunny Side of the Alps”. He will discuss the stylistic and cultural connections between Kraftwerk and Laibach and the two Trans-Slovenia Express compilations
After almost four years of planning, writing and editing, a totally updated and extended German version of Alexei Monroe’s book on Laibach and NSK will be released by Ventil Verlag this March. “Laibach & NSK – Die Inquisitionsmaschine im Kreuzverhör” includes material covering Laibach & NSK-related activities since the publication of the English 2005 edition with new photographs, contents and an extensive chronology not featured in the original book.
An updated French translation of Alexei Monroe’s book on Laibach and NSK was just released by Le Camion Noir.
Interrogation Machine, Laibach et le NSK includes material covering the last decade with new photographs, chronology and contents, plus an exclusive final chapter dealing with the reception of Laibach and NSK in France.

Presentations of the German edition of Alexei Monroe’s INTERROGATION MACHINE “LAIBACH & NSK: Die Inquisitionsmaschine im Kreuzverhör” and world premiere of the documentary film “1st NSK Citizens’ Congress, Berlin” by Irwin in collaboration with Igor Zupe.
On occasion of the imminent publication of the internationally acclaimed reference work on Slovene (retro-)avantgarde artists LAIBACH and the cultural movement co-founded by them, NSK (Neue Slowenische Kunst), Ventil Verlag, NSK STAAT LIPSK, Creative Empire and Zonic magazine extend invitations to three events presenting the book and to the following informal gatherings.

Manchester Metropolitan University, Department of History, Politics and Philosophy (Politics section) present a seminar on the aesthetic and political issues around NSK, accompanied by an exhibition of NSK Folk Art.

Neue Slowenische Kunst (a German phrase meaning “New Slovenian Art”), a.k.a. NSK, is a political art collective, which came into being in Yugoslavia in
1983. This seminar will consider the NSK State in Time, focusing especially on political and artistic issues.

Marcus Campbell Art Books, comes a talk by Alexei Monroe on Laibach, introducing their work and early beginnings:
“Twenty years to the day after the London date of the Kapital tour, Alexei Monroe will discuss Laibach’s most complex album and this memorable London performance.”
Alexei Monroe is the author of MIT publication: Interrogation Machine: Laibach and NSK. The book will be on sale at the shop, alongside other NSK and Laibach records, posters and ephemera from the NSK display.
